I have nothing to complain about. Visited: April 2006

This resort was beautiful, spacious, clean, and employeed very friendly staff. The dining options were very diverse and convenient. The room was stocked each day with a mini-bar.

In addition, relaxing here was effortless. I will definitely make return visits. I guess the only thing I could complain about was the casino. I thought it was not worth visiting. But then again, I don't mind not losing my money.

There was also plenty of souvenir shopping on the beach as well.

Spanish required for a stay here. Visited: June 2005

I liked the resort. However, I had a difficult time dealing with the employees because they did not speak English very well (if at all). That included the servers and bartenders, who I had to communicate with at least three times a day.

The only other negative was that the "all inclusive" included "all you can eat" only between the hours of 8-10, 12-1:30, and 4-6 (estimate on the times). So, if you have a late night craving for something, or you want to eat a late lunch, well you went to the wrong resort.

On the positive side, it was the most amazing beach I have ever seen! The rooms were good with amazing views.

Overall, I had a good time. They did have a few issues that you should know about heading in, though. However, I would visit this resort again if given the opportunity.

They provided a great beach, but weak service and food. Visited: November 2004

From Toronto by Skyservice/Signature, our flight was okay. It was a short bus trip to resort.

We were able to switch right away to a different room in another building with a king bed.

All the rooms were the same other than some oceanview rooms. The resort is approximately 20 years old. Our bathtub was small, and the furniture was a wicker weave. Also, there was some obvious wear on the bed covers and other places. But the rooms were clean and quite large.

The room cleaning service was up and down. We left cash tips every day, but somedays we got four towels and extra Coke and beer, and some days we got two towels, no beer and once no toilet paper.

The quietest and furthest from lobby and entertainment stage would be Block 5 & 6. All buildings have covered walkways leading back to lobby in case of rain. In our case, this was five out of seven days. We just picked the wrong week.

The Palace was on one end of the Barcelo Complex of five hotels, each being 400-500 rooms. Many rooms in other complexs were closed and undergoing renovations, possibly due to the last hurricane (and also because of age).

Palace guests could use all 12 or 13 restaurants and, in theory, the others were not supposed to come to the Palace (but they did). Each complex had a buffet plus some specailty restaurants. We tried most of them - with the exception of Chez Palace (French). They all were just okay. Anything beef was tough, chicken was always good, and seafood was plentiful. There was lots of variety, but portions were very small (one small filet or five shrimp).

In any restaurant (except French), the service was okay, but it was like fast food style - get in get out. Getting a second drink, coffee, etc. was not easy. They rarely came to offer a second, but they were quick to pull your plate when you put your fork down. We tried tipping upon being seated to see if that made a difference, but we often did not get the same waiter/waitress once our order was taken to come back.

One issue not clear was that the French and Spanish restaurants were not part of the all inclusive (not noted in the book). But due to the recent hurricane(?) we were allowed one only for no charge.

The bar service was the same, the waitress would walk by us several times before taking an order even if taking old glasses away.

The beach, the pool and garden/grounds were all fantastic. Getting a beach chair was the old towel reserve game.. first up in the morning got the chairs. There were a lot of Europeans and Spanish guests, and most staff had minimal English, but it was not a problem (it is their country!). We managed quite well.

Avoid buying anything at any stores in the complex. It was very expensive. A flea market was just off the property by walking down the beach. On an international scale, I would give it three and a half stars.

Next December, I am coming here again for the fourth time.

The resort is simplly beautiful. The service is perfect, the rooms are nice and spacious, and the choice in food and restaurants is very diverse and good.

Just try it - you will love it.

This was the best place we've ever stayed. Visited: January 2003

We just got back from Cancun - and one week week prior to that - Jamaica for our honeymoon. Neither of these two locations could beat the resort of Bavaro Palace!

The staff went out of their way to help and serve us - none of which we saw in Cancun/Jamaica. We have never been treated like a king and queen as we were in the Dominican Republic.

The nightly entertainment here could not be beat - CATS, dancing shows, there was always something going on! You have to try this resort!
