We had a terrible experience. Visited: January 2008

I took my boyfriend here for two weeks for his birthday. I paid top notch, so I expected top notch. He comes from Caribbean islands, so I expected a brilliant holiday.

We had a room by a swamp. It was smelly and awful. We only got moved because we got broken into, and the door was broken.

We reported we had been broken into. We reported the items missing, and the staff told us we damaged the door and that no one had broken in. They made us feel awful at the start of two-week holiday.

Our rep was unhelpful, and we ended up paying £100 for the door -otherwise, they would not give us our passports back. They also said they were going to get police if we did not pay £100. I believe this hotel is a scam. The service was awful.

The food was nice on day one, but 14 days of the same got boring. The drinks were awful. They were too sweet. They were not proper cocktails, but mixed sugary drinks.

Do not go here. I did not even give it a rating.

The only good thing was the entertainment. However, the entertainment stopped at 10:00 pm

I stayed at this hotel back in May 2002. What a fantastic hotel with the best animation team I have ever met.

I have just come back from my fourth visit here, and I am going again in a week to another hotel on the same resort. I must say none of the other hotels have never even come close to matching what I experienced at Hotetur Villas Doradas Beach Resort.

What I want to know is why did they turn it into an adults-only hotel?

This resort was awesome! We had tons of fun, and all the people working here were amazing!

Obviously, it was not like a five-star resort, so don't expect that! But, it was still very nice - and I highly recommend it!

I stayed here for two weeks, and had an excellent time.

The facilities were pretty basic. However, it did not spoil anything.
The staff was friendly and polite, and went out of their way to help.

I would definitely go back again.

We had a bad experience, and do not recommend Hotetur Villas Doradas. Visited: March 2006
Posted by idressmy
Our group had a terrible time at the Villas Doradas.

First and foremost, our rooms were broken into. Our rooms had been ransacked, and our valuables had been stolen. We found the management to be unhelpful on the matter, and they made us feel as if we were in the wrong. They danced around the issue and seemed to brush us off completely. We were very unhappy about the way they handled this.

Our rooms smelled of insecticide because of the amount of mosquitoes that swarmed the rooms. We either were eaten alive or inhaled those fumes.

We had called the reception on the first day to inquire about the mosquitoes. We then received a stream of calls and hang-ups throughout the night.

I would not recommend staying here if you want a comfortable stay. Although this resort was listed as a three-star and more affordable, you pretty much get what you pay for. Buyer beware!

I wouldn't recommend it! Visited: January 2006

My boyfriend and I have just returned from Villas Doradas and I don't rate it! I have stayed on the north side of the island before in a three-star hotel, so I thought I knew what to expect. However, the three-star hotel I stayed in before was a five-star compared to this.

The first night we arrived, our room was dark and dingy, and the bathroom was dirty. We complained, and were moved the following morning. The next room we were moved to was right near the stage where the entertainment was, so we couldn't have an early night if we wanted to, it was very loud in the room.

Fair enough, the pool was cleaned regularly, although my boyfriend ended up getting an ear and throat infection. After two days, it turned into pneumonia and he ended up spending a week in the hospital. The doctorrs were sure this was from the pool or sea.

The food was okay, but it was near enough the same lunch time and evening. The Chinese was nice, but with very limited choices.

The hotel seemed over-crowded during the time we we here. There did not seem to be enough facilities for the amount of people stauing. For example, there were not enough sunbeds by the pool for the amount of people there, so we needed to get out early. There was not enough space to sit down and have a drink in the evening, either!

We managed to do a few excursions, and I would recommend Ocean World. It was a very good day out, and well worth the money (we got to eat decent food as well!).

All in all, I definitely would not go back. I wouldn't class this as three-star compared to other three-star hotels I have stayed in (in Dominican Republic, Cuba or Barbados).

I have just returned from spending Christmas and New Year in the Doradas Beach Resort. Overall, I was very impressed with the standard of rooms considering it was only a three-star resort.

The maids came daily to the room changing the sheets and leaving fresh towels. Beach towels were also provided, and they were cleaned every day so there was no need to take your own.

The entertainment team was excellent... Charlie Brown is one of the funniest people I have ever met. He always liked to joke around.

The pool was kept clean. Although, one person I met here got an ear infection and had to stay on another week (tragedy!).

I would recommend touring the island, so you can see the real Dominican life.

The beach was very nice. They cleaned it every day. The food available in the shack was standard. However, the chicken did not really have much meat on it.

All in all, I would recommend this place to everyone. There was plenty to do and see, and you will never be bored.

I wouldn't recommend booking tours through the operator. They seemed to charge double. The plaza shopping centre was a good place to go. You could even to speak to the guys on the beach. If you can haggle, you can probably get them to come down on their price.

I can see why it didn't quite make 4four-star rating, but it was lovely anyway Visited: September 2005

When we arrived, I was not impressed with the room. But what do you expect for three-star accommodation?

We were not far from the pool, area although it was very quiet which was nice. The evening entertainment was okay, and the staff really tried hard to get everyone involved. Most of the staff were very friendly (especially when they wanted to sell you timeshares!).

Cocktails were a bit too sweet for us, but we couldn't fault the food. We only stayed for one week and I'm glad as I think maybe two weeks would have been a bit much.

The pools seemed clean, and we even saw a man testing it with all the equipment which was reassuring (as im a bit paranoid about that)! The beach was also nice. It was not white sand as I thought it would be, though. The only thing I didn't like was I had about 20 people offer me braids for my hair - and loads of sellers, too. My advice is to show no interest whatsoever as rude as it sounds, or else they are on you like vultures!

We had glorious weather - as you'd expect - even though we went in hurricane season. The maids cleaned the rooms every day, and there was always a classic film on if it got too hot outside! I would give this holiday a rating of seven out of ten.

I just got back after a two-week stay here. It was great. The room was clean, with good air conditioning. And the maid service was good.

The food was as you would expect for a three-star accommodation - not amazing, but far from poor. The pool areas were fabulous, and the Fun Team was really good fun.

I'd recommend this wholly. But remember though, it is a three-star - not a five-star property.

The most awfull experience in my life. When we checked in everything looked ok until we went to our room, that is when the nightmare started. The walls were moldy, no towels, no soap, no telephone, no hot water, no toliet paper, the bathroom was moldy, the ac was not in the best condition, big roaches roaming as if they owned the place, Spiderwebs in the ceiling, not to mention the horrible smell that came from a swamp just outside the room. I felt as if I was in a letrine. After informing the front desk about the situation they were not nice, we spent two hours trying to find a room (The reseptionist had us go check at least 7 rooms and they were all in very bad shape). I could not sleep. We checked out the next day.

I have just returned from another holiday at hotetur Villas.

The rooms here are basic - but clean. But you don't go on holiday for the rooms anyway.

I am a very fussy eater. But I found the food to be great, with plenty of choices - even for people like me.

Also, the staff was friendly and very helpful.

Thank you to all the staff at Hotetur Villas for looking after me.

Hotetur Villas is brilliant - get it booked and don't hesitate! Visited: July 2005
Posted by darlogirl
I have just arrived back this morning, and I can honestly say I had a fantastic time at this hotel.

Three of us (20-year-old females) went for two weeks of relaxation, and to drink, eat, sunbathe and sleep as much as wanted. This was excatly what we did for two weeks.

The entertainment team was first class. They were fun and always smiling. They really seemed to try their best to make our holiday one to remember. There were activities to do all day, every day. But if we weren't feeling up to it, a simple "no" was all it took for them to move on and let us sunbathe.

Night time entertainment was always good. Being here for two weeks, we expected a repeat of some shows. This was not the case. The second week was somewhat different, which was lovely.

If you have kids, you will be perfectly suited to this hotel. The fun team was amazing. Sophie, who looked after the kids, was brilliant. She never stopped, and neither did the rest - SugarBelly, Mosquito, and Rambo were always full of energy. They really did work, work. work - 24/7.

The pool and beach were both lovely! It was never over busy, and there were always plenty of sunbeds and shades. The pool bar was excellent - a very refreshing break to be able to get out of the sun for ten minutes.

The guests here were lovely, too. There was always somebody there at the pool to have a good natter to, I nattered a lot, and there was not one complaint.

Regarding the restaurants and food: Ignore comments that indicated all they had were chips, chips, chips, as this was so untrue! I saw chips on the buffet about four times in the whole two weeks.

The main restaurant had different themed nights - Mexican, Dominican, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, etc. The buffet offered a variety such as soup, salad, pasta, vegetables, and three different meats. It was always very nice, and also offered vegetarian options.

Every night we were able to have some pasta freshly made for us in our choice of sauce. The a la carte restaurants were okay. The seafood restaurant was amazing. And the grill was good, but not a good English steak and chips. All the same, it was very tasty.

The Chinese one was also nice, although it was not your typical Chinese take away. There were no prawn crackers. Yet, we still enjoyed our evening there very much.

All the restaurants were nicely decorated, and we really felt like we sat in more than a three-star hotel. It was brilliant.

We did the catamaran trip - this was amazing. We were at sea all day. We fed tropical fish and went snorkeling with them. It really was brilliant. We also heard very good comments about the jeep safari trip and the dolphin trip and Paradise Island!

Overall, our stay here was fantastic! I would have no hesitations in going back next week! I thought it was more than a three-star accommodation.

These were the best two weeks of our lives. Visited: June 2005

We were really nervous about going to this hotel at first after all the reviews we had read. But as soon as our feet stepped off the plane, all of those bad thoughts had disappeared. This was our first holiday together and what fantastic memories we have.

The rooms were basic, but since we were in such an eventful and interesting place like this, and we only used it to sleep in, there were no complaints! The air conditioning was fabulous. It constantly stayed on all day and night.

We loved the food as there was such a variety (it did take a while to agree with our system though, but that's the charm of visiting a foreign country!).

We went on five trips which were all brilliant. The Monster Truck gave us such an insight into the way the real Dominicans live. We got to visit a typical Dominican house, and the children we met were beautiful and loved for us to give them "menas" (which were sweets).

Swimming with dolphins in Ocean World was breathtaking. They were so intelligent! The catamaran was also wonderful, we snorkeled, danced on the banana boat, and got very drunk on rum (which was all they drank here!).

In addition, the Jeep Safari was an achievement for us, as we got the opportunity to climb seven waterfalls and jump off the top! We bought a DVD of the whole experience, and it was wicked.

Lastly, we visited Paradise Island which was absolutely stunning. The traveling seemed endless, but when we arrived after a 20-minute ride on a speedboat, we were speechless! We had a breakfast there of watermelon and pineapple, and snorkeled in the transparant sea. The fish were just around our feet.

This trip was definitely the best, because this was where we got engaged. We couldn't have asked for a more romantic environment.

The trip was fantastic. This resort would be perfect for anyone, at any age. The shows in the hotel were really good, and the reps were so funny. They will definitely have you dancing the merengue!

There was so much to do and see here that you will never be bored! The casinos were so "Las Vegas style". Even though we didn't win, the whole experience was worthwhile!

You have to visit this very special place. Ignore all the bad reviews you might hear, because if you don't try, you'll never know! We will definitely be returning in the future!

It was excellent! We would definitely go back! Visited: June 2005

Before leaving, I was really worried. I had read all these terrible reviews and was even trying to change hotels! However, once we got here, it was great.

The weather was amazing, the beaches were gorgeous, and the hotel was as described. Our room was extremely clean, and we never saw a bug the entire time we were here. In fact, we never even got bitten!

The pools were great, and the alcoholic drinks were good - but very strong. The food wasn't great every day, but there was usually pizza, chips, or things like that for picky eaters. The beach restaurant was also good. We never got to eat in the other restaurants (book early!), but we heard they were all lovely.

I would definitely go back, and would recommend others not to be so worried!

I found this resort to be disgusting. Visited: May 2005

I can't believe that people have rated this as five-star hotel accommodation. It appears they have never traveled further than their grotty UK bases. I found this to be the most disgusting place I have ever bothered to waste my money on.

I live in the UK, but have the pleasure of being proudly Cape Townian. And even in third world status, our holidays there put Hotetur Villas Doradas to shame!

Everything about this hotel is great!

I know that people have posted a lot of bad reviews, and many of the reviews indicate that this is not a nice place to spend your holiday. That's not true - it is absolutely lovely. Just come here and enjoy!

Special thanks to the entertainment team - Pedro, Jerry, Ruth, Sofia, Kukurullo and Rambo! They made my holiday unforgettable. I will see you soon!
