We got what we paid for and loved it. Visited: March 2003

We were able to negotiate a cheaper rate once we arrived - to the point that we were paying 75% less than any other place we looked.

For a day there was no hot water, but for the price we paid for all we could eat and drink, I would do it again in a heart beat. It was the best food I have ever had, they had a very pretty beach and pool, and the staff was great - we were even on a first name basis.

I really did love every second I was here.

2 stars is being generous Visited: October 2001

This was the first time I had been to the Caribbean. Having arrived late due to a delay in Manchester we made our way to the Metro from La Romana airport.
After checking in we were taken to our room. As we walked in the lady hit the aircon unit to make it kick into action! My friends diesel car is not as loud as this unit.
She then left us with not a word.

First off we needed to freshen up and get some sleep, as we had been awake for nearly 24 hours. This is when the problems really started. I went to the toilet, but was dismayed to find that it did not flush! Taking a shower was no joy either with the rust all over the head. Being very tired we decided to leave the problem till the morning, as we needed some sleep. But the evenings entertainment started up and was so loud that the DJ might as well have been in the room with us.

The following day we reported the toilet problem and they sent someone to mend it. This involved cramming paper in the cistern! I could go on and on about the Metro but I cannot be bothered. After 5 days we had had enough and paid the travel company Ł580 to move to the hotel next door.

The Metro is the worst place I have ever stayed. Almost nothing worked in the room (dangerous electrics, faulty toilet and aircon). The beach was artificial (concrete with 3 inches of sand). The food was poor. Entertainment was pathetic. And the staff had an attitude indicating that they just did not care.

My last comment about the Metro is I have rated it as 2 stars and that is being generous.

The best travel experience ever. Visited: May 2001

I arrived during the night. Upon my arrival, I felt a sense of magical tranquility. I knew that by morning I would be in for something special, unlike anything I have ever experienced. The next morning I woke up to see the ocean from my window. It was absolutely breathtaking. I went down for breakfast and had a few fruity drinks on the beach.

The staff is one of the most pleasant that I have ever encountered—especially Otte, one of the bartenders. I felt completely safe, relaxed and cared for. I don't think I would have gotten this treatment anywhere else. Also the fact that Best Western is located in a little ocean village-like area gives you a certain sense of seclusion. You feel like you have become a part of the island, and as if you actually live there.

The most relaxing enjoyable resort I have ever stayed at! Visited: November 1999

Being my first trip to both the Caribbean and an all inclusive resort, I was a little dubious at first because I wanted to get to see local culture at the same time as having all the amenities to hand at the Hotel, but the Metro allows you to do all that. Although small, and in need of a little repair, the rooms were comfortable, and air conditioning was a big bonus!

Food and drinks were available all day every day, from 6am to 2am, and as long as you showed your wrist band, whatever you wanted was yours. All the drinks were local, but I definitely got a liking for the Dominican rum and beer during my stay. If you want more upmarket drinks, then a pay bar is available, both inside and outside. Food was outstanding, such variety every day, including a lot of local dishes and fish dishes. Mid afternoon a Bar-B-Que was served on the beach, with sausages and deep fried bananna - delicious!

From luchtime onward, the entertainment team hit the place like a whirlwind. From about midday, you could do aerobics, volleyball, water polo, pretty much anything you wanted to do, to be honest. The staff there were great and actively encouraged getting involved with various activities.

Then in the evenings from "super happy hour" at 5pm through to the show at 9pm, the place came alive. The show in the evening works around a two week rotation, so if you are there for two weeks, you should see each one once. Shows included karaoke, Miss Metro, Mr. Metro, Limbo dancing, everything to get the guests involved and sometimes with some good prizes, like a meal in the hotel's paying restaurant, which would otherwise have been a bit expensive for the average guest. Top marks to all the entertainers for making us laugh!

Free water sports are available on the beach, including snorkeling, canoes and dinghies. Jet ski's are available for hire at a small charge. Snorkeling was one of the highlights of our time there, the sea life even a few metres out was amazing, but watch our for the jellyfish!! The local area was good with some excellent gift shops. The only hassle I received while there was from the beach sellers, but the soon got the message after you told them no! I certainly want to go there again in a few years. The beach, although a little storm damaged, was great and I can picture it now! T
