My boyfriend and I, and two of our friends stayed for a week and we all had a great time.
We had our guide help us with activities and we enjoyed them. We swam with dolphins, rode horses on the beach, went parasailing, took safari rides, shopped in the villages, and met some people from all over.
The beach was beautiful and so was the hotel lobby. We felt like celebrities or something because that was how we were treated here. The staff was incredible, they worked a lot of hours and at the end of the night they still had a smile on their faces.
I would recommend this hotel whether you are into trying new and adventurous things, partying, or just relaxing. |

We will recommend this resort to everyone we know. The staff was friendly and the grounds were kept perfect. But boy, I wasn't used to the heat!
The beaches were remarkable, and everything was perfect. For those who have complained, they should have stayed home. I'm sure it wouldn't matter where they stayed, they would probably find something wrong with it. |

My husband, our daughter and I just returned from this resort. It was out of this world! It was our delayed honeymoon.
Don't listen to those petty people picking everything apart, because it was magnificent. Okay, the cable reception wasn't all that clear, but hey, if you wanted to stay in and watch TV, you should have stayed home!
The staff was unbelievably nice and courteous. And, as far as the waiters and waitresses went - they were remarkable. We were never out of drinks, and we were treated like royalty. We tipped them well, and they appreciated it.
They also treated my daughter and niece real well. We will definitely be going back next year. |

We loved the place! We wanted something very nice and not as busy or crazy. And we got what we wanted. The stuff at the hotel was amazing...we always got fresh flowers in our room and nothing was stolen. However, we left good tips every two days.
The food was amazing. We could eat what we wanted from 7:00 am until 1:00 am. All the different kinds of restaurants offered a great variety of foods. Yes, we had to sign up for it...but it took us 20 minutes and no problems.
Yes, there was a bit of seaweed really late at night, but it was all gone by 9:00 am in the morning, so I dont' know why people have complained.
Our group rented motorbikes and we went into the city and did some shopping....it was a great experience. If you can, definitely do it! We took advantage of all the water sports and activities. We also went to the casino and a club at another resort. It was a lot of fun.
Overall, it was a great vacation and everyone loved it! |

I checked into Allegro with my husband, 4-year old son and 7-month old daughter for 4 nights. There were 4 people doing the check-in and 1 person in front of us. We waited approximately 15 minutes and then it took another 15 to finish with us. They were visibly unorganized and looked frazzled as if it were there first day on the job. They handed me 1 key (that was a new one for me) to a 3rd floor walk up with "great views." (I had requested a 1st floor room prior to leaving New York.) I got the 1st floor and I had to request the crib and fridge because apparently they didn’t have any information.
Okay, we survived check in. The room was so basic it made the Motel 8 look luxurious. Simply put, it was 2 double beds and a bathroom. That's it. Not even an alarm clock! I felt the sand on my feet, there was visible mold (a lot of it) on the curtains to the balcony and the light switch between the beds, rust on the door frame to the bathroom and in the bathtub. The smell so bad I sprinkled my daughter's baby powder on the pillows and sheets so we could sleep because the bedspread was so funky. Remember I'm Dominican so I'm used to some mustiness and humidity but this was ridiculous!
When we saw how basic this room was we requested a change for one with perhaps a coffee pot or microwave to heat the baby's milk. Didn't get the room change and cried to get a coffee pot. All I wanted was the convenience of warming up my daughter's milk to which a supervisor replied I could get hot water at the restaurants. Calling all mothers: would you not be fuming by now? My temperature was boiling at this point. First, their restaurants close by 11PM and as I told her "so you expect me leave in my PJ's at 2 or 3 am looking for hot water?!" "All I want is a coffee pot." It was delivered by a person accompanied by 2 security guys.
If it weren't for the sun I would have died here. I couldn't wait to get home. All in all, it was not worth it even at $55 per person per night. |

My first time to Punta Cana was great. Visited: July 2002 |

Having traveled to different beaches, Punta Cana has been the best. And the entrance to Allegro Resort was as beautiful as their beaches!
Bring sunblock and aloe gel because the heat is high! Also, bring extra money to tip (optional) and to buy things when the local vendors come.
The resort offered a variety of restaurants, but to eat at the fancier restaurants, you must make reservations. Also, men, bring some nice slacks - without them entrance is denied.
There was an issue with the pool - if guests wanted chairs, they had to put towels on the them by 7:00 am.
Nightlife at this resort was wonderful. They offered shows every night. They also had a casino, a club and open bars. If you have young children and don't want them exposed to topless women, don't allow them to go to the beaches by themselves. Women were required to wear them by the pool due to the families.
Have fun, it's not every day you get to vacation on a beautiful island! We are planning to return this July. |

Tear this place down and start over! Visited: March 2002 |

If it was not for the sun, the ocean, and the staff moving us to another resort I wouldn't give this hotel a rating.
A squished cockroach on the floor in my room was my greeting. A leaking, cold
shower is what I started my day with so I went to the front desk, mentioned I was not satisfied with my accommodations and they upgraded my husband, our two
friends and myself to the Flamenco resort which is (in comparison) an 8-10
star resort.
The Alegro Bavaro resort could use some major work. The humidity has taken it's toll.
I would not consider the Allegro Bavaro a vacation. I would not choose this place again. |

We got what we expected. Visited: February 2002 |

My wife and I visited Punta Cana for a delayed honeymoon and we enjoyed our stay. After a small hassle getting a different room, the one they gave us did not have a safe key, we were happy with the service. While rooms that face the pool might be a little noisy later at night, rooms facing the beach or to the outside are quiet.
The food was so-so. I am in the military, so I am used to bad food. All and all it was acceptable. The liquor flowed like water. I suggest that you BRING MUGS!!!! They give you little glasses that are empty in no time, then you have to get back up. My wife and I brought plastic mugs and people actually tried to buy them from us during our stay. The food and drink are good for a 3-star resort which it is.
The pool area, while nice, lacks a good amount of chairs. If you want a good seat you need to reserve it when you get up for breakfast. We were up at 8 everyday to scuba dive, and about 25% of the chairs were already taken. You reserve them by putting your towel on them. So I suggest, while they will give you towels, to bring your own.
The beach was nice. It was my first trip to the caribbean, so I cannot judge it comparatively. There was alot of seaweed sometimes, but not overpowering.
As for activities, like I said, we are divers. I took the class and got certified there. Michael, the instructor, was great. He is German, but there was no problem with the course. The course is accelerated into 3 days. So there is not alot of time to get used to stuff. There are lots of other things to do in the area free and costly.
The only adventure we did was the outback safari run by Apple Tours. I highly recommend it. The guides are knowledgable and friendly. Catamarans, sailboards, snorkels, are free to use all you have to do is sign them out. I suggest that you get equipment insurance. It is 10 bucks a week, or 2 bucks a day and it covers all the equipment.
To the right, as you are looking into the water, there are huts that have stores to sell you stuff. The guys are pushy, almost rude. If you let them know that you are not buying or just looking, most of the time they will back off some, but not all the way. There is nothing that can be done, so take it in stride and do not get mad.
Remember, you get what you pay for. We did not pay alot for our vacation, but we got more than we expected. Will go back next year.

Major disappointment! Visited: February 2002 |

Major disappointment - this is definitely not a 3- or 4-star resort. Old looking complex, poorly kept, noisy, small and crowded beach, smelly rooms, moldy bathrooms, stained towels and squeaky air-conditioning, and poor TV reception. Locals are lovely, staff is "mucho simpatico", but their limited knowledge of English makes communication rather difficult. Also, their kids program is rather non-existent (no structure, no schedule, "nada"!!!) |

We just arrived from Punta Cana. It was our first trip to a Resort.
We had a wonderful time at the Allegro Resort Bavaro. We were there for two weeks and enjoyed everything there was to do. The staff was very friendly and there was great entertainment at night.
Our rooms were clean and we could not get enough of the good food. We would go again. |

My sister and I had a great time here although it was very quiet and people didn’t party much. The staff was great and very friendly. The food, in my opinion, was great. Everything was very clean (the rooms, the pool, the restaurants). The places at the pool and the beach are limited. You have to be there early to have the place you want.
The only thing I didn’t like was the drinks and that there was not enough nightlife. But I still had a blast and would go back for sure if I weren’t single! |

It was really not a bad time at all. Visited: December 2001 |

We checked many places before choosing this resort. We usually travel to the Carribean twice to three times a year. Being a little low on cash, our travel agent suggested Dominican Republic as being low priced. Boy! what a bargain for the price. It was so low, we got another couple who had never been to the Caribbean to come along.
We left early and arrived early. The airport was great - easy to get in and easy to get out. It was small and very well-kept. The airport looked like a big hut.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with open arms. The people were very friendly. If you are nice, they will return the politeness. The grounds were beautiful, clean and lush.
The pool was great! It was pretty big and was always clean - never murky at all. There were no lifeguards, so having someone with you would be nice, but there were plenty of people. The kids had their own section - which was cute.
The staff was unbelieveable. They put on great shows every night and took care of us all day. There was something to do with them all the time. Whenever we needed them, they were right there.
The beach was a bit rough because we arrived the day after a storm. The water was warm and full of fish. My kids loved it. They were at the beach the whole day! Oh, to the people who complained about the seaweed factor. Come on! If you people can't wait till 10:00 a.m. for the staff to clean it, stay by the pool!
I also recommend trying to sneak in a massage. They are inexpensive and great!
The restaurants weren't top notch, but it was not really that bad. My wife is really picky and she thought it was good. There was plenty of food at each sitting and if you liked the food a special way, they were happy to do whatever it took to make your meal a pleasant one. However, the specialty restuarants were better.
I would go back again. I would recommend this resort to the open-minded people. If you want high class, choose another hotel because if you are too good for this hotel you don't belong here. It was a great family vacation. We will be probably going back in a couple of years. |

Very relaxing holiday. Visited: September 2001 |

My husband and I went to Punta Cana for our 6-year anniversary and we truly enjoyed a very relaxing time at Allegro. After reading reviews on this site I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. We also have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts, both excellent and fair. I would rate this resort as good.
Our first room was next to the Kid's Club playground and we were moved without any problem, as we wanted a quieter area. I recommend a 3rd-floor room, as the ceilings are vaulted and make the room much more airy. All of the rooms have balconies and double beds.
We brought small gifts for our housekeeper and she was appreciative as she decorated our room daily with fresh flowers. I enjoyed relaxing on the beach while my husband golfed, played tennis, sailed and played ping pong. Lots of activity if you want it!
The food was okay, nothing fancy, but palatable. And the staff was quite nice. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, this is the place!

I stayed at Allegro for the first time and enjoyed every minute. The service was great, the activities workers were great and the shows were excellent. In fact, I liked Allegro so much that I went back 2 months later.
My rooms were excellent, but any little problem was fixed right away. The workers in the lobby were excellent. I met my soon to be husband (God willing), Samson, there. He works in activities.
I also went back in August of 2001 and the food was good. This is the place to go whether you want to relax or have lots and lots of fun. You just have to figure out what you want and either way you'll enjoy yourself this hotel—it is the best.
If you have a bad time it's because of the visitors not the hotel. Any problem is fixed right away. Go and have fun; I met people there and we are all going back. You’ll enjoy yourself whether you come as a family, with friends or as husband and wife for a honeymoon or anniversary. Take my word for it, I would be the one to list any little complaint!

When I went to Allegro Bavaro I met many wonderful people and had a restful, peaceful time. I fell in love all over again with such a beautiful Island God created. Activities workers are very special young people. I went 2 times alone this year. These kids work very hard. One request would be that they should put more towels in the rooms.
I've told many people about Allegro Bavaro. When I find something that I'm happy and satified with I like to share and I am not a easy person to satisfy. The people at the front desk were very nice. I will be visting in God's name with a group soon. |

Everything good you've heard about the Dominican Republic was true. I had a wonderful time. The staff was extremely friendly and was always trying to get people to participate in the non-stop activities. The entire staff spoke English very well and all the activities were done in several different languages. If you encountered someone who did not speak English very well and were a little creative you could communicate.
This was our first vacation and we would definitely go back. I would recommend the Jeep Safari and the Crazy wheels. If you go on the Jeep Safari and have a heart bring some candy or some cereal from the hotel to give to children.

I had the time of my life. Visited: June 2001 |

When my family and I first arrived at Allegro, things seemed a little quiet. The resort is the most peaceful place I have ever visited. The endless beaches and the hot weather fit the Caribbean experience to a T.
A few days into our visit, many graduation groups came to stay for a few days. In my case, it was a blast. I got to speak Spanish and meet a lot of new people, because the graduates were around my age. It was so much fun learning the merengue with my very charming new friend, the resort’s activity guy, Eduardo. The shows at night were very entertaining, especially the couple’s show.
The only negative experience I had was the shortage of towels in our room and the amount of food at the buffet. But don't let that stop you from visiting. I had a great time, and would recommend it to anyone who wants to just get away and have a good time.

Three Strikes We're Out Visited: May 2001 |

This was our 3rd stay at an Allegro Resort (previously in Cozumel and Aruba). We got this through a timeshare (RCI) exchange. Our biggest complaint was the low-quality food, even in the restaurant they rave about "Carusos". You need to make a reservation and it's the same stuff they serve at the buffet. The portions are tiny (3 mini shrimp as a main entree, tough beef, etc.) The liquor, even though unlimited, is like poison (all bottom shelf unheard of brands - nothing even mid- range).
The beach was small and the water was full of seaweed that they had to dredge every day. You can't really leave the resort so it's good if you're into sitting on the beach or by the pool. English is barely spoken.
We booked a snorkel trip and were told to wait on the beach (which we did for 2 hours) and later found out they came to the front desk by bus to get us. We did get our money back immediately - no hassles, but we would have liked to have taken the trip and not wasted a few hours trying to find out why we weren't being picked up. No one except the agent who sold the trip would help us and he was off that day!
The resort is old (faded, cracked tiles, rust in the bathrooms), but our room was clean and we got the oceanview as requested. It seemd as though they were trying. They delivered a refrigerator, fruit and liquor to the room the 3rd day of our stay. Also, we were not bothered by any timeshare offers, which was nice.
I would go back to Punta Cana, but not to Allegro.

The staff was very attentive to our every need. The food was delicious and varied everyday. The entertainment created a fun, yet relaxing environment. It was so great that we returned with the whole family in less than 6 months. We have given the resort much advertisement because compared to other resorts on the island, it has been the best. |
