It was terrible! Visited: December 2007
Posted by kojak71
First off, our room was just awful. It was infested with ants, and we went home with a sort of skin rash from the beds. Our fridge was rarely restocked, the sheets were rarely changed, and the bathroom toilet paper and towels were never replaced. We had to find the linen closets to get our own stuff. That is poor.

The food was amazing, though. The a la carte dinners were like nothing else. It was very high class food. Also, the waiters were excellent and very accommodating.

We found the front desk staff to be horrible at delegating duties. We had to call five times to get anything done.

The daytime bar staff acted very slimy in my opinion. They tried a little too hard to be extra friendly to guests' girlfriends or wives. The evening bar staff was very cool, though.

In addition, the closest beach was not worth going to. It was terrible. Take the trip into Sosua, and use that public beach - it was very nice.

This is not a resort to go to if you want to relax or get refreshed. The music is very loud all the time. You can hear it in your rooms, loud and clear, from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. I guess maybe we were supposed to be outside in the sun, but being hungover will do that to you.

Finally, for all the junk we had to deal with, we probably lost a good two days off of our stay trying to get service. And we can speak Spanish.

This is my second home! Visited: November 2007

I will be staying at the Tropicale in November for the second time this year. I'll be taking my son this time. He needs a break.

I have been coming to this hotel for some 15 years at least once a year - with other destinations in between. I love the place, and now all of the staff know me so well.

It's just so friendly, and they just cannot do enough for you. I have in the past taken friends and family, and they all say what a great place to stay.

Yes there are better hotels around, but you will pay a lot more. I don't see how you can get better service than you get here. The rooms are in need of a lick of paint, but how much time do you spend in it when the sun is shining?

Come to this hotel, and I am sure you will have a good time.

This was the best holiday in the world. Visited: December 2006
Posted by ikleprincess
I went to the Fun Royale in December for my birthday. I have to say, it was the best holiday ever.

The staff was so nice and made the holiday for me. All of them were so nice, and I loved it that much I'm going back in April. I can't wait.

If you want a fun and brilliant holiday, Fun Royale is the place to go.

I enjoyed my stay here. Visited: December 2006

The entertainment staff worked very hard doing the shows at night, then trying to get everyone up and involved during the day.

There were loads of competetions happening during the day with good prizes (like bottles of rum!).

The pizza bar was so nice with a lot to choose from. The food in the main restaurant was also very nice, but the chips were cold if we ate late. Apart from that, the food was excellent - especially the hot dogs from the beach bar.

The rooms were very clean and big. The staff was really friendly. Shout out to Louis, the swim-up bar guy!

We have just come home from our stay here, and we feel relaxed.

The entertainment was really good, and there was plenty for the whole family to do. The rooms were clean, and the staff was very frendly. In addition, the food was good, and there was something for everyone.

We will return to this hotel.

I just got back from my stay. I had read reviews and was a bit worried, but I shouldn't have been.

The hotel was lovely and clean, and the staff was constantly on the go. They were always very friendly. The reps worked 18 hours a day to make sure all ages were well catered for! The kids' club had it's own park and a private pool that was opened from 9-5 .

There was a beach nearby, and free transport was regular - every 10 minutes or so.The food was not the same as home, but there were plenty of choices, so you will always find something to suit. The staff cleared plates as soon as we finished each course.

There were two restaurants (you have to book for both). They were a delight to eat in. We visited both twice during our stay.

On the whole, it was the best holiday we've had in a long time.

It's true they don't call it "fun" here for nothing. Visited: September 2005

It's true they don't call it fun for nothing. We had the best time ever.

Our room was really nice. The food was plentiful and really catered for a wide range of tastes. The entertainment staff was fabulous, and went out of their way to ensure everyone had a great time.

This place was especially good for families and children with lots of activities on every day. I can't wait to go back.

It was basic, but a good value for the money. Visited: March 2005

My fiance and I went to Fun Tropicale for two weeks in March 2005. The staff was great, but they would not let us relax! They were always getting guests up to play games and stuff. Even if we just wanted a peaceful day.

The rooms were very basic, and the air conditioning seemed to leak all over our floor everytime it was put on. However, the food was great, and there was a huge selection every day.

I will not return. Visited: March 2004

We arrived late on March 8th, 2004 and were shown quickly to our room. The room was nice enough, but we immediately had a problem with the sliding patio doors not working and called for someone to repair it.

The repair person came right away but didn't really do much aside from tell us to open it from the other end. That worked 'okay', but the door often 'jumped the track' and was never a breeze to contend with. The view from the balcony, when we could get the door open, was tremendous!

A jug of water was provided in the room, along with an ice bucket. But the ice machine was at the other end of the resort - not at all handy. Water was not replenished unless specifically requested.

The food was great and plentiful. The pools were nice and lounge areas were spacious enough. We didn't find a lot in the way of activities unless booked outside the resort with a tour company.

Making telephone calls was horrendous! The phones in the rooms were far from quality and often 'blanked out' or were static-filled (I say 'phones' in plural because we were not the only people finding the same problem). International and Canadian operators wouldn't allow us to use a Canadian calling cards, so any calls home must be collect (a problem I never had, even once, in Punta Cana).

Getting fresh towels seemed to be a sporadic event. Patrons were 'blitzed' with a time-share-like shpeel - distasteful indeed.

The icing on the cake was that one of the staff stole from us - right from out of our hand! We attempted to rectify the problem first with the staff involved, then at the reception area, then with the manager of activities.

Nothing was done to correct the situation. The manager explained that the staff was "only 18 and 19 and probably didn't know better," and that "they were probably drunk" - since when do you get drunk on the job and it's okay? He also said that the situation appeared to be "a misunderstanding" since we didn't clearly understand each others cultural influences - in which culture is theft acceptable?

We suggested that we should speak with the general manager, but were told it wouldn't make a difference since "he will tell you the same thing" as the activities manager had. The issue was not satisfactorily resolved before our departure and we spent the remainder of the trip feeling dissatisfied and unhappy. Our next vacation here will not be spent at the same resort.

It was fabulous. Visited: July 2003

This was the best holiday ever. There were non-stop activities. The rooms in Royale were not much, but we realized we were put there by mistake. We moved to Tropicale, and it was brilliant.

The food was great, and the entertainment staff was fabulous - especially Rudi and Felix. My oldest daughter, who is 13, fell in love with Felix (even though I spotted him first - ha ha). They were all very friendly and wonderful people.

The beach was a bit windy but lovely. The beach bar food was great, too.

We went as a party of nine and most definitely are going back next year. We can't wait. It was first time we have ever wanted to go back to the same place. The kids have even said the only holidays they want from now on is at Fun Tropicale. We only hope Rudi will be back, as he and Felix made the hotel. All the entertainment staff worked really hard.

The one thing missing was a mosquito net, as we would get bitten every night. But that still did not put us off.

I first stayed at fun tropical in february 2003 and had the most wonderful holiday topped off by the fact that a holiday romance had blossomed with a member of the animation team called rudi.I realise i should have left it at that but returned again three months later in june not only because rudi wanted me too but i really had a fantastic time. But on my second visit a friend and i left the hotel with rudi to celebrate my 25th birthday and out of the blue when we were alone he beat me up quite badly for no reason. This was reported to hotel staff and first choice representative, but i was told it was my fault and not to bother taking it further with the police because they wouldnt take it seriously as it happens frequenly!!

We liked it so much, we're moving here! Visited: March 2003

My sisters, my mum and dad and I came here for two weeks, and it was wicked.

The entertainment staff was fantastic, but Rudi was a bit annoying sometimes! You had to know how to take him! Felix was fit, Joel and Alberto were a laugh, and Angelo was a great all rounder. He spent his day off with us looking at houses.

The bar staff was a bit over-friendly at times. The food was good, and waiters were friendly. The rooms were okay.

We bought a house here and are moving in four months. I can't wait. Have fun!

I enjoyed an inexpensive and fantastic holiday. Visited: February 2003

We had a fantastic time. The staff was great, and always smiling. They made sure guests were enjoying themselves. There were loads of activities during the day, but there was no pressure to take part.

It was not what I would call a five-star resort, but we certainly got more than we bargained for given that it was so cheap to go.

There was also a good selection of food, with a different theme every night.

My only complaint was that he beach was not what I would have expected from the Caribbean. We were a bit disappointed, but the pool was fabulous, so that kind of compensated.

All in all, it was a great holiday and we would go back in a second.

It was the best vacation I've ever had. Visited: February 2003

I had such an amazing week at Fun Tropicale. If you like to drink and have ridiculous amounts of relaxing fun, this is the place to stay. If you're into outdoor activities and such, that is also another reason you should go.

The climate was great, the staff was so funny and entertaining, and there were so many different types of people here - mostly from Canada. I'm from the U.S. , and I dont think I've ever met that many Europeans and Canadians at once. It truly was a wonderful experience and I'll always remember the good times I had here.

Another brilliant stay at Fun Tropicale. Visited: August 2002

This was my third visit to this marvoulous resort. I entered the hotel again to wonderful, smiling happy faces.

I was very surprised, though, since lots of things have changed (for the best). Unfortunately, we never got our room, since we booked it with the wrong block! We had a very nice, spacious room anyway.

The restaurant changed for the best again! It now is more like eating out every night since it's very luxurious!

The entertainment staff was still as wonderful as ever.

I will be definitely be returning very shortly, since it's a place where dreams definitely came true for me!

It's the most fun place I've been to! I was here in 1999 and came back in 2002, and it was even better.

The food was good, the shows were great, and the animation team didn't stop.

Everybody was there to make our stay the most pleasant stay as possible.

Hotel nice, rooms poor Visited: April 2002
Posted by dean33
Having read all the reviews before we went we were quite surprised to find the hotel to be a lot better then we thought it would be. The only downside was the room we had. It faced a car park and could, along with the air-conditioning, be quite noisy at times. At the end of the day though, for the amount of time you actually spend in your room, this not worth complaining about.

Transfer time from airport is only 20 minutes which is good, however if you are bothered by aircraft noise be aware that the Playa Dorada resort is located right underneath the airports flight path (landing only). You usually only get about one or two aircraft an hour and this only occurs during the day.

Regarding island excursions, I would definitely recommend the one to Cayo Paradiso (Paradise Island). It is a white sand island located about three miles from Punta Ruisa accessible by small boat. The water is crystal clear and you can go diving and snorkeling among the coral reefs. The colours of the fish were just amazing and it really was worth the three-hour coach trip to get there.

Overall a very enjoyable holiday, the weather, food and resort were very good and we would definitely go back.

Me and my husband got married here 2 years ago. Due to our constant praise our best friends are doing the same thing. This is a brilliant hotel and value for money. They say, “You get what you pay for,” but this holiday is much more!

It’s only 2 weeks before we are off and I can’t wait because I know our friends’ wedding will be as wonderful as ours was.

Overall a good holiday, but the hotel is a bit shabby. Visited: January 2002
Posted by clare_miles
Our first impressions were unfortunately poor. We were taken to a room that hadn't even been cleaned and prepared for our arrival! However, we went back to reception and they soon sorted us out, albeit giving us the wrong key! Our overall impression of the hotel was, “shabby”. Nothing that a lick of paint and a bit of TLC couldn't have remedied, which seems a shame really.

However, putting that aside we did have an excellent time. The food and drink selection was excellent—always lots of choice and we never once experienced holiday tummy. The staff was all friendly and all tried very hard to keep us entertained. (We had a couple of bad days weather and so they really tried to buck up our spirits.) The evening entertainment was quite basic really, but I suppose they have to cater for all ages and nationalities.

We took 2 trips whilst there - a jungle safari and a catamaran trip. Both were excellent and showed the 'Real Domincan'. Snorkeling in Sosua (part of Catamaran trip) and hand feeding the fish was one of the best things I have ever experienced.

Overall, a relaxing and value for money holiday, which I am sure they could make even better with a lick of paint and a few new tiles. I would certainly return, but maybe to one of the higher-rated hotels.
