It was a nice resort - but don't get married here! Visited: March 2006
Posted by maryg
My now husband and I had gone to this resort the previous year, and loved it so much we decided to get married here.

However, when we arrived, we were extremely dissapointed. The quality of the food had somewhat diminished, and none of the things we had been promised were there.

For starters, we had to send money to get married, and for this money we were promised a variety of things. My hair was supposed to be done; my bouquet was to be included; we were to have breakfast in bed; a cake and flowers for the wedding; and my husband's suit was to be included.

When we got here, we were told that we had to give them more money because the judge had "upped his prices". We were a little irritated, but figured that this was just par for the course.

We were also told that our parents (who were staying on another resort) would have to pay $75 each American to come to the wedding, have dinner, etc. Fine...but the morning of our wedding, they suddenly had to pay another $100 each!

I went to get my hair done, and while I was sitting in the chair, the "wedding coordinator" came and demanded more money for the flowers. I was furious - but forked it over.

Then, just as I was about to leave my room with my dad to go and get married, the "wedding coordinator" showed up again and demanded more money for my hair! Uuggghhh!

Whatever! I got to the beach (in my full wedding dress), and the judge didn't show up for another hour and a half!

We had pictures done (they were included in the package), and we were supposed to be able to choose 12 as part of our package. Instead, they gave us six really bad ones (our eyes were closed, we weren't looking at the camera, etc.), and we were then showed a whole bunch of really nice ones and told we had to pay for them!

So, back to the wedding day...our cake "mysteriously vanished". They had put flowers in our room for when we got back, but these flowers had bugs in them and there were ants crawling in our sheets!

The next morning, what a surprise, no breakfast in bed. Sigh!

My review, a good place to go and have a drunkenly good time for students (because it's inexpensive). However, not so much for adults. And you certainly do not want to get married here!

All told....the wedding package was supposed to cost us close to $2,000 but we ended up paying about $5,000 (and that didn't include our two-week stay!).

Is this a tourist resort or cattle farm? Visited: August 2004
Posted by colinet_clamart
This was the first time we experienced a mass touristic site.

In terms of holidays, ours was absolutely awful! We spent the whole stay wondering why we left our nice house close to the forest to stay in such a boring place. We felt like cattle. It was necessary to be identified by wearing a kind of bracelet around our arm.

There was nearly no activity except lying under the sun. And for 700 hundred people, there was one broken wind surf, one unusable catamaran, bicycles that were undescribable, 30 seconds of water ski after having waited for hours.

The sight of 700 hungry people rushing to the buffet was also appalling.

Finally, they freed us and we returned safe and were released to our beloved country.

To would-be tourists to the Dominican Republic: please escape this kind of resort. Take some autonomy and travel independently here and there in this nice country with nice people!

There were very nice people, good food and a nice country. Visited: February 2004
Posted by ktgreg
Our room was very clean, though not up to date as expected in USA. Soon, it did not matter. The service, food, and especially the people were beyond praise.

Also, my massage at Xanadau beauty shop was supburb along with manicure and pedicure.

Our group had a wonderful time. We had wonderful experiences and really got to know the country a little bit as well. We returned feeling relaxed, blessed and humble.

A beautiful place to find tons of fun and hot guys! Visited: July 2003
Posted by mizdutchlover288
I go to Playa Naco every single year and each time it gets so much better! I never have a bored moment! The only bad day is when I leave.

During the day there is tons to do - water activties, which include the banana boat, kayaking, and many tours. Or, you can choose to relax next to the blue waters of the beach or by the clean pool. During the day the pool also has tons of games to play, like water-polo, water volley-ball, and bingo. Prizes can include bottles of Dominican rum or fruits.

The food is great! The breakfasts are awesome! There is an omelet maker and all you do is put the ingredients you want and he makes it right in front of you. There is also bacon, eggs, French toast, cereal, fresh fruit, fresh juice and fried plantain and cheese.

The lunch in the dining area is good and it usually includes rice, beans, five types of meat, pasta and mind-blowing desserts. I prefer to eat lunch at the beach where they serve chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, and a fruit-type gelatin for dessert.

For dinner there is so much available that I cannot even list half of it. You always get a choice of seven meats, pasta, rice and dessert.

During the evening you can watch the show or stroll around the grounds. The nights are my favortie part! TOPS disco was pretty empty this year, so we only went twice. The best places were Crazy-Moon and Hemingways. These places are awesome!

The people you meet are awesome, and the drinks are great. They also play excellent music - everything from rap to merengue, salsa to bachata, as well as R & B, techno and rave music. The night life is just awesome!

Overall, this trip was awesome. And, like always, next summer we will return.

it was horriable!!! Visited: April 2003

I would never stay at this resort. I vactioned there in April. The food was terriable and the service was not the greatest. When we got to our room there was a cockroach in the fridge. As well this is a hangout for the locals on the weekends. Forget about getting drinks then, the locals come first. Our friends stayed at the Iberostar, it is a much better hotel. As well when you are eating the birds fly in and take things out of the buffet. It is not a very clean hotel either. Take my advice, DON'T GO THERE!!

There are many great things about Playa Naco. Visited: March 2003
Posted by lphosfog
I highly recommend Playa Naco. We couldn't have asked for a better resort to have a family vacation. There were too many great things to do in such a little time!

The staff was exceptional, the rooms were clean and the pool was awesome. The bathrooms weren't that far away, and there was always a large selection of food and drinks.

Cheers to Mickey, Junior, Mario, Candy and all of the staff and entertainers for showing us a wonderful time. You guys were great!

It was one of the best experiences of my life. Visited: March 2003
Posted by joannecrane
Everything about this place was excellent. I loved the beach, the room, the food and, most of all, the staff.

The night life was the best, though. They always had a show, and then after we would go to the disco. I also met a couple of new friends, and I'm planning to go again next year.

Oh, and for you ladies, ask Mario or Mickey to give you a few dance lessons. Trust me, they won't have any problem with it.

This resort needs a deep cleaning! Visited: February 2003
Posted by carmen_ouellette
This resort really needs a deep cleaning! If the food had been excellent it would have made up for it, but to serve Tang and call it orange juice is stretching it a bit. The Bars are dirty. You can smell the alcohol and sticky juices walking up to the bar. I thought that the bartenders were ignorant; my Spanish is not great, but even I could pick up that they were laughing at the guests.

The pool lacks chlorine, as the water is very muddy. The fact that there is a swim-up bar, with no restroom close is a potential problem, enough said. The best feature is the beautiful white, sandy beach. If the resort shapes up it could make this a wonderful spot to stay.

It was the best week of my life! Visited: December 2002
Posted by ivanakolovrat18
My two best friends and I visited the Playa Naco Golf and Tennis Resort this December for a week. When we arrived, we found that our room wasn't the greatest, but it didn't matter because we weren't in there much at all.

The food was delicious, especially the desserts! We loved the way we were treated by everyone who worked here! They really knew how to make their guests happy.

Our favorite day was the day on the catamaran tour (Wildcat). The guys on the boat were a lot of fun, and really knew how to entertain everyone! We loved snorkeling!

The nightly entertainment at the clubs was amazing! The Hemmingway and Crazy Moon were always good (after 12).

We even went to the city few times. And rode on the motorcycles a few times, too!

Overall, our stay was great, and we are planning to go back in August for two weeks!

Top staff and a top disco can be found at Playa Naco. Visited: August 2002
Posted by nat3515g
I went to the Playa Naco Resort for my 21st birthday. Having stayed in another hotel within the resort earlier on that year, I didn't think that the hotel would meet my very high expectations. They proved me wrong.

I also thought that going alone would be boring - wrong again. I met up with two English families and spent my whole holiday with them. They had been to the hotel five times before, so they knew the place very well. We made freinds with all the entertainment staff, and had a great time.

I can't wait to go back. It was really a great place to be. I loved it here.

What a blast! Visited: May 2002

This place was great.

I went down with 12 university-aged friends for a week right after exams. We like to party and have a good time, and we definitely weren't disappointed. We quickly became known as "those crazy islanders" and made lots of friends through our name. It was great.

The hotel was more than we imagined. We assumed we'd receive a regular hotel room, but instead we got a two story suite. It was more than we ever needed. We were on the third floor of building 19.

I'm a pretty picky eater, so I didn't find much at the buffet that I liked, except for the morning omelettes which were unbelievable. I was a big fan of the Caribbean Grill and the Pasta House, though. The pool was great. There was always fun games to be played in the pool, and always plenty of rum.

The nights were fun, too. We definitely had our dancin' shoes on that week. The music just makes you want to dance. I highly recommend late night swimming to anyone. The water at the beach was perfect at night, but I wouldn't bother jumping in the pool on your stumble home, they didn't take to kindly to that.

All in all, this was a great trip and we're already making plans to come back again next year.

It was a party! Visited: May 2002

This was an amazing resort. I was here in February and returned again in May. The second time was even better than the first!

We decided to venture off the resort this time and see some sights, I recommend this to everyone. We went to Sousa Beach for the day. It was beautiful (white sand and clear water). We also went sightseeing in downtown Puerto Plata, the streets were very busy in the day, but seemed to slow down at night.

The staff at Playa Naco was excellent, especially the coffee friends. They were the best part of the trip and they all remembered us from the time before. The nightly entertainment was awesome, and they always kept us laughing.

After the show, you can go to Tops disco which wasn't so busy, so we carried on to the Crazy Moon, which was packed with locals who showed us a great time. The men were very forward and aggressive at the Crazy Moon, but very hot!

We had two great vacations at Playa Naco, and we will be back next February for two weeks. We can't wait!

It was the best trip of my life! Visited: May 2002

This was an amazing trip! We arrived at the hotel and decided that we were in Heaven!

Two of my close friends and I fell in love with the resort, the beach, the entertainment and, of course, the staff (especially the activity center staff)! We had a great time chatting , dancing and taking part in the activities the hotel offered!

Overall, the food was very good. My favorite meal of the buffet was definitely the breakfast, as the omletes were amazing! Each buffet seemed to be fresh and looked scrumptious! All three restaurants (Italian, Mexican, and Caribbean) were excellent! The service could not have been any better! The staff was always looking to please the guests!

The nightly entertainment was always enjoyable! There was lots of dancing, laughing and drinking!

I will definitely visit this resort again in the near future! But next time I will stay for at least two weeks (or maybe even move here)!

This was my best trip ever! Thank you!

It was simply awesome! Visited: April 2002

My friend Chris and I went to the Dominican Republic to celebrate graduating from university. I thought I wasn't going to really like a pre-planned trip, but it was so nice to know that everything I would need had already been paid for.

The food was great, the local TV was hilarious, and the service was super! The rooms were simple but huge, the nightlife was crazy, and hanging by the pool was so relaxing.

We had a great time! Visited: April 2002

Staying at Playa Naco was a very nice vacation. We were two couples and had a lot of fun.

The staff was really friendly - especially Nelson. He was the bartender at the pool for a couple of hours, but then he would work at the VIP lounge from 7:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. If ever you go to Playa Naco, please ask Nelson for a "Nelson Special" - it's a very good drink!

The entertainment was pretty good. The Dominican people sure can dance.

The food was mostly great, but I kind of got sick of it after the first week. Maybe it was just me being too fussy! However, my friend really liked it - especially the desserts.

As for the beach - it was gorgeous! It was very clean. It was too bad the sand wasn't more white, though. The water was so blue and clear. Every day we would have fun at the beach and would go play in the waves where the Orange market was. There were huge waves there!

They also had an excellent pool! It was very warm, large and clean.

Our rooms were nice and clean, also. They weren't fancy or anything, but we were never in our rooms anyway.

Also, you have to try the Banana Mamas. They were delicious! I also recommend taking the jeep safari. Book it with number 15 or Carlos. They'll be on the beach.

Have fun!

We had a great time. Visited: April 2002

My wife and I had a great time at the resort and would recommend it to anyone. However, the room we stayed in made a bad first impression. It was a bit tired and worn-out looking and could have been cleaner, but it became less of an issue as we settled in and realized we were right on the beach and could hear the waves crashing.

The food was very good overall. The Caribbean Grill and The Pasta Factory were both excellent. The desserts were amazingly delicious, and the fresh omelets and the Dominican coffee were also excellent. We went off the resort and had some fish dinners that were absolutely sumptuous (it paid to be a bit daring!).

We enjoyed our excursions on the funny bikes and on the catamaran. There was plenty to do at the resort with banana boat rides, kayaking, parasailing. We got great massages to work out the soreness from the activities.

The night life was okay, the shows were fun but Tops Disco needed more musical diversity. Stop with the rap already and give us some Salsa and Merengue! We did a lot of dancing and enjoyed partying with our fellow guests in spite of it all. We tried the Crazy Moon Disco and didn't care for it. There were too many locals in the sex biz looking for easy prey. It had a sleazy feel to it.

The resort staff was excellent. They were very warm and genuine. We plan on going back for two weeks next year and are looking foward to it.

I traveled to Playa Naco as a chaperone with high school students. What an experience! We enjoyed every aspect of the trip. We spent a day in the jungle, which was fun. The staff was awesome and everything was fun! There was lots to do.

We received more than we expected. Visited: March 2002
Posted by ninner_17
After visiting Playa Naco with my mother and cousin for my spring break, I came home relaxed and satisfied.

The accommodations were, for the most part, very good. However, our bathroom left something to be desired. The bathtub was in need of a little maintenance and it could have been cleaner.

The food was excellent! I was expecting the food to be all the same (chicken and rice every night), but it wasn't the case at all. I would definitely recommend the Caribbean Grill and the Pasta Factory. Also, don't sleep through breakfast, the omlettes were to die for!

The beach was awesome, and we were not overly pestered by the vendors. But definitely look into buying a day trip off the beach, they were cheaper than the ones offered from the hotel, and were so much fun.

The night-life was good. If you like to go out at night, make sure you get a lot of rest in the afternoon, because things don't usually start up until after 11:00 p.m.

It was a great trip to a great hotel filled with great people!
